Arni Arnason Takes 42nd In 50 Free At NCAA Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Freshman swimmer Arni Arnason (Msfellsbaer, Iceland), the first Monarch in the Division I era to qualify for the NCAA Championships, kicked off his appearance at the championships on Thursday afternoon in the 50 free. Arnason clocked a time of 19.92 during preliminary action, placing 42nd in the field of 66.

Thursday's appearance is the first of three for Arnason at the 2009 NCAA Championships. He will also swim the 100 breast on Friday, March 27th, and the 200 breast on Saturday, March 28th. Arnason set new Old Dominion records in both events this season. (100 breast - 53.48; 200 Breast - 1:58.37).
