NORFOLK, Va. -- Junior Erla Haraldsdottir (Njardvik, Iceland ) is the first women's swimmer in ODU history to be heading off to an NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championship after having been selected to compete in the 100 breaststroke.
Haraldsdottir's second place performance in the 100 breast at last weekend's Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championships gave her the 23rd fastest time in the nation in the event. Her time of 1:00.46 was not only an NCAA "B" cut to help her qualify for the NCAA Championships, but also a new Lady Monarch benchmark in the 100 breast. Haraldsdottir reset her own record of 1:01.15 that she had set earlier in the 2010-11 season.
Haraldsdottir swam in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 100 breast and 200 IM for Iceland and is a 24-time Icelandic Champion with 11 of Iceland's records, She has also won 11 medals participating in the Small Nation Games in 2003, 2005, and 2007 bringing home a total of seven gold and four silver.
The NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will be held March 17-19 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas. Click here for the championship homepage.
