NORFOLK, Va. – On Friday and Saturday, the Old Dominion University rowing team will be competing in the 75th Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta in the Philadelphia, Pa. The Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, with over 100 colleges and universities from the U.S. and Canada.

Each year, thousands of student athletes gather to compete during the weekend of the second Saturday in May. This prestigious regatta takes places on the Schuylkill River. In all, there are roughly 150 races throughout the two days on the 2,000 meter Olympic-sized course. Generally, races begin at 7 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and end around 5 p.m.

On Friday, May 10, Old Dominion will be competing in a total of two races, the Varsity Four and the Frosh/Novice Four.

The Varsity Four event is scheduled to be Event No. 15 on Friday morning. ODU will be in the first lane, as they take on: William and Mary, Drexel, Bowdoin, Marist and the US Military Academy. The fastest three boats will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, May 11.

The Lady Monarchs’ second and final race on Friday will be the Frosh/Novice Four (Event No. 69) on Friday afternoon. Lane three will be Old Dominion’s, as they look to takedown: Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon and Rochester Institute of Technology. The top two times will advance to the semi’s on Saturday; with all final races being held on Saturday afternoon.

Two weeks ago, the Lady Monarchs competed in a four-team regatta in Miami, Fla. ODU swept Southern Methodist while also defeating Central Florida on a two-kilometer course on Indian Creek in Miami Beach, Fla. The Lady Monarchs also fell to Miami (Fla.), which completed a 2-1 weekend for the Old Dominion.
