March 30, 2012
OCCOQUAN, Va. -- After racing Virginia, one the nation's top teams, in scrimmage action the Old Dominion women's rowing team returns to the water at the Occoquan Sprints.
"We braved about 4.5 hours of steady rain, but there was great racing by all ODU boats," said head coach Dan Garbutt of last weekend's racing against the Cavaliers. "While we didn't win any of the matches, we raced with real heart and have demonstrated steady improvement and were very thankful of the chance to compete with such a quality program."
The Occoquan Sprints features heats and finals races for varsity and novice eights, while all other races will be finals only. The Lady Monarchs will have four entries including the Novice 8, Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8, and Varsity 4.
Among the schools participating in the Occoquan Sprints include Bucknell, Duke, N.C. State, Georgetown, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, as well as CAA rivals George Mason and Delaware.
