April 26, 2013
NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University rowing team will race against Miami (Fla.), Southern Methodist and Central Florida on April 27-28. These four competing schools will race a two-kilometer course on Indian Creek in Miami Beach, Fla.
Two weekends ago, all five Lady Monarch’ boats made it to a final race at the 2013 Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J. Old Dominion’s Novice Four and Second Varsity Four each ended up placing fifth overall, respectively.
Both Southern Methodist and Central Florida are full-time members of the C-USA, which means the Lady Monarchs will compete against both teams again at the C-USA Championships on May 18 on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The University of Miami rowing program appeared in the latest edition of the NCAA Regional Rankings released on Wednesday. As a team, Miami is ranked No. 6 in the South Region. The Canes’ First Varsity Eight ranks No. 5 in the region. The Canes’ Second Varsity Eight also cracked the regional rankings, earning the No. 6 slot. The Hurricanes also received two votes in the latest CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Poll.
