NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion men’s tennis team (7-2, 1-0) won their first conference matchup of the season 4-3 against the UTSA Roadrunners (3-5, 0-1) at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday.

In singles, the Monarchs got another early win in straight sets from No. 44 Carlos Lopez Villa over UTSA’s Yannick Junger (6-2, 6-1). This win extends his winning streak to 9, and is the eighth match that Lopez Villa has not given up a set. Darragh Glavin was the next Monarch to keep the ball rolling with a convincing straight sets victory over Eric Buchalter (6-0, 6-2). Dante Terenzio improved his record to 6-3 by defeating the Roadrunners’ Joel Rubio (6-2, 6-4). UTSA came back with two wins of their own, but were unable to match the Monarch’s will to win as Jonas Kuwert won the deciding match against Diogo Casa (7-5, 6-3).

In doubles, ODU’s duo of Carlos Lopez Villa and Jonas Kuwert were winning their match seven games to four against the No. 16 ranked Joel Rubio and Tomas Stillman when the clinch rule was used to stop play.
