Hristova Earns Wildcard for 2014 Boyd Tinsley Classic at Boars Head

CHARLOTESVILLE, Va. – Nikol Hristova (So. - Sofia, Bulgaria) of the Old Dominion University women’s tennis team has earned a wildcard spot to participate in the prestigious Boyd Tinsley Clay Court Classic at Boars Head Country Club in Charlottesville, Va.

The Boyd Tinsley Women's Clay Court Classic is a tournament, which includes professional female tennis players is played on outdoor clay courts. The event is classified as a $50,000 ITF Women's Circuit tournament and has been held annually since 2002. This year’s tournament is scheduled to start on Sunday, April 20 and will run through the following Sunday (April 27). 

Hristova, Old Dominion’s No. 1 singles player throughout the entire season as just a true sophomore, ended the regular season on a six match winning streak and is the defending Conference USA Player of the Week (first Conference USA award received by an Old Dominion University female tennis player in the school’s history).

Hristova finished the regular season with an impressive 12-4 record.

In doubles this season, Hristova compiled an astonishing 9-2 record with partner Melissa Esnal Olguin. Hristova and Esnal Olguin had not dropped a match since March 9th, which was against No. 46 South Florida.

Also appearing in this weekend’s Boyd Tinsley Clay Court Classic will be nationally renowned Melanie Oudin, who was propelled to stardom as a 17-year-old, in the middle of 2009, when she reached the round of 16 of the Wimbledon Championships, followed by a quarter-final at the US Open a month and a half later. She reached a career high ranking of World No. 31 on April 19, 2010.

Boyd Tinsley is an American violinist and mandolinist who performs as a member of the Dave Matthews Band. Tinsley was born in Charlotesville, Va. in 1964.
