ODU SAAC Members to Represent Conference USA on National Committees
By ODU Athletics
Norfolk, Va. – Two members of the ODU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) have earned national roles to represent Conference USA on NCAA committees over the past week. Current SAAC President, Mufu Taiwo, will serve as one of two representatives for Conference USA on the Student-Athlete Connection Group within the Football Oversight Committee. Former SAAC President, Sam Perelman, will take over as Vice Chair of the national NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
During its June 2018 in-person meeting, the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee voted to change its structure to provide football student-athletes increased opportunities for providing feedback to the committee. This led to the formation of a Student-Athlete Connection Group. The goal of the Student-Athlete Connection Group is to gather broad-based feedback from Division I football student-athletes on issues the Football Oversight Committee is reviewing. Football Oversight Committee member Jennifer Williams, director of athletics at Alabama State University, will serve as the oversight committee's liaison to the group. Taiwo will participate in quarterly teleconferences to provide feedback to the oversight committee beginning later this month.
Perelman has represented Conference USA as a member of NCAA Division I SAAC for the past year; however, in an expanded role as Vice Chair, Perelman will additionally represent them on the NCAA Division I Council and will have voting privileges. The mission of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by protecting student-athlete well-being, fostering a positive student-athlete image and inclusive student-athlete environment and promoting student-athlete engagement at the national, conference and local levels.
