CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Old Dominion wrestling team (0-3, 0-2 MAC) lost to No. 17 Northern Iowa (3-1, 1-0 MAC) on Sunday afternoon in the West Gym in Cedar Falls by a 29-9 score. Kevin Beazley and Will Hilliard wrapped up the dual meet with the lone victories of the match for the Monarchs.

"This was a definite learning experience for our guys," head coach Steve Martin said. "We have to be able to initiate our attacks no matter what the circumstances are. We need to focus on what we can control and stay in our positions where we are good. We have another opportunity to do so Tuesday night and that's the expectation."

Beginning at 125, third-ranked two-time All-American Dylan Peters earned a first period fall over Steven Simpson to get the momentum rolling for the Panthers. Josh Alber followed up with a major decision win over Alex Madrigal at 133 to put UNI up, 10-0.

At 141, UNI's Jake Hodges used a four-point nearfall in the third period to take down Emilio Saavedra, 6-0, before Max Thomsen put together an 11-3 major over Michael Hayes at 149. Paden Moore put the Panthers up 20-0 at the intermission with an 8-2 decision over Austin Eads at 157.

In the premier match of the afternoon, 17th-ranked Bryce Steiert knocked off the Monarchs' No. 14 Seldon Wright, 3-2, on the strength of a first period takedown. Wright secured both legs on a double leg attempt in the closing seconds of the bout, but time expired before control was awarded, and Steiert took the narrow 3-2 victory.

In a wild freshmen battle at 174, Taylor Lujan put UNI up 26-0 with a 10-5 victory over Antonio Agee. Drew Foster followed up with a 6-1 decision over No. 9 Jack Dechow at 184.

Kevin Beazley got ODU on the board with a commanding 6-0 decision over Jared Bartel at 197, using takedowns in the first and second period to clinch the Monarchs' first win of the dual.

At 285, Will Hilliard received a forfeit to bring the final dual meet score to 29-9.
