YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Despite fifth-year senior Michael Hayes' victory over returning NCAA qualifier Nick Barber, bonus points led Eastern Michigan over Old Dominion, 25-14, Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti.

"Mikey Hayes beating a returning NCAA qualifier and a nationally-ranked opponent was the highlight of the day," head coach Steve Martin said. "Wright, Dechow and Beazley put up a lot of points and that was good to see. We are better than what the team score showed today. We need to get back to work this week and get ready for the Virginia Duals."

Beginning at 184, No. 9 Jack Dechow kept his momentum rolling into 2017 with a 10-2 major decision over EMU's Mitch Malott to give the Monarchs a 4-0 team lead. Ninth-ranked Kevin Beazley followed up with a commanding 10-5 decision over Derek Hillman at 197, improving to 13-1 on the year and extending the ODU lead to 7-0.

EMU answered back at 285, as NCAA qualifier and 14th-ranked Gage Hutchison defeated Will Hilliard, 8-2. At 125, No. 18 Noah Gonser pinned Steven Simpson in the waning seconds of the bout to give the Eagles their first lead of the dual meet, 9-7.

After the Monarchs forfeited at 133, EMU veteran Kyle Springer picked up a late major decision over true freshman Kevin Budock to put the Eagles up 19-7.

The Monarchs got their biggest win of the day at 149, as Michael Hayes topped returning NCAA qualifier Nick Barber by a 6-4 decision to trim the Eagles' lead to 19-10.

Zac Carson picked up a third period set of nearfall points to defeat Austin Eads, 4-3, at 157, extending the EMU lead to 22-10 with two bouts remaining.

No. 17 Seldon Wright got back to form in a dominating 14-6 major decision over Devan Marry at 165, but the dual meet was out of reach, as EMU held on to a 22-14 lead with one bout remaining.

In the final bout of the day, Kayne MacCallum took a 7-4 decision over Antonio Agee at 174 to cement a 25-14 MAC win for EMU.
