NORFOLK, VA - Old Dominion Women's Lacrosse fell to the Owls of Temple University this afternoon by a close 6-5 score. The Lady Monarchs take their third straight loss and fall to a 2-3 record. Sophomore Kelly Kimener (Oakton, VA) netted two goals for ODU in today's match and picked up an assist off a goal by Ashley Stanwick (Annapolis, MD).
The Owls jumped to an early 3-1 lead heading into half time, but the second half saw Melody Shotwell (Fairfax Station, VA) come out and score an unassisted goal in the first two minutes narrowing the score 3-2. Temple then grabbed another goal; before Kimener put one away to keep the score close 4-3 Temple.
With 10 minutes to play, the Owls knock in back-to-back goals pulling away 6-3. In the last four minutes, the Lady Monarch's rally back and cut Temples lead to one after Stanwick and Kimener find the net and each pick up a goal.
With the score 6-5, and less than two minutes on the clock, the Lady Monarchs grab possession of the ball off the tip following Kimener's goal and attempt to take the game into overtime. Temple blocks Shotwell's attempt at the game tying goal and gains possession of the ball as time expires.
Old Dominion takes a day off, but returns to action Monday, March 27, as they take on Rutgers at Foreman Field.
