NORFOLK, VA -- Senior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA) finished the afternoon with a game-high three goals and junior Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) added two goals and three assists as the fourth ranked Old Dominion field hockey team defeated #18 Virginia, 11-0, at Foreman Field this afternoon. The Lady Monarchs, who record their second straight shutout and fifth overall, improve to 9-2 on the season, while the Cavaliers drop to 5-4.

In all, six different Lady Monarchs reached the back of the Cavalier net, with four multiple scorers. Snow put away the game-winner eight minutes into the contest off a penalty corner with the assists from Loy and junior Melissa Leonetti (Erdenheim, PA). Loy scored her first goal of the afternoon at the 28-minute mark to give Old Dominion a 2-0 lead at the half.

The Lady Monarchs once again controlled the tempo from the opening whistle and proceeded to score nine times in the second half. Snow scored for Old Dominion less than two minutes into the half, once again off a penalty corner set up by Loy and Leonetti. Sophomore Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Netherlands), sisters Angie and Becky Loy (Loysville, PA), and Snow all scored solo goals putting the Lady Monarchs up 7-0 with 14 minutes remaining. Leonetti added two goals in the final 10 minutes of action along with CAA Rookie of the Week Rosalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA), and penalty strokes by Snow and Bant.

The Old Dominion defense shutdown any attempts made by the Virginia offense to reach the net. For the second straight game, the Lady Monarchs allowed no shots on net. On the other hand, Old Dominion fired away 23 shots on goal and held the advantage in penalty corners, 12-1.

Goalkeepers Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) and Denita Acker (Cape Town, South Africa), making her first career appearance in net, shared the shutout. The Cavalier's Emily White (Finksburg, MD) and Logan Carr (Williamsburg, VA) combined to make ten saves.

The Lady Monarchs will return to action in two road games next weekend. Old Dominion will face #15 Princeton, who defeated the Lady Monarchs in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, on Saturday, October 5th and new CAA rival, #16 Delaware, on Sunday, October 6th.
