Field Hockey's Streak Ends At 10 With 3-2 Loss At #6 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA -- The Old Dominion field hockey team's 10 game winning streak came to a halt on Sunday as the #6 Penn State Lady Lions halted the #1 Lady Monarchs, 3-2. The loss drops Old Dominion to 15-3 overall while Penn State improves to 13-3.

The Lady Monarchs had to play catch-up the entire game as Penn State took a 1-0 half time lead and extended its advantage to 3-0 with 20 minutes on the clock in the second half. Lady Lion Timaire Legal scored the lone goal of the first half three minutes into the contest.

Penn State's Kelly Concini scored less than two minutes after the opening whistle of the second half of play to extend the Lady Lions lead to 2-0. Karin Grap scored the eventual game-winner with 20:40 on the clock.

The Lady Monarchs thwarted the shutout as freshman Rosalinda Banuelos (Escondido, CA) got Old Dominion onto the scoreboard with 19:22 remaining off an assist from sophomore Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Netherlands). The nation's leader in points, Angie Loy (Loysville, PA), gave the Lady Monarchs their second goal with 7:06 left.

Penn State outshot the Lady Monarchs 14-8, while Old Dominion managed to outcorner the Lady Lions 8-6. Lady Monarch keeper senior Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) made eight saves in net, while Penn State's Anna Zinkavich recorded five.

The Lady Monarchs head into the final week of the regular season. Old Dominion hosts Princeton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1st and North Carolina at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The match-up with the Tar Heels will be the annual scholarship game with the $5.00 admission benefiting the Old Dominion University field hockey scholarship fund. Additionally, Princeton and North Carolina will face each other on Sunday, November 3rd at 1:00 p.m.
