Loy Named CAA Player Of The Week

NORFOLK, VA -- Junior Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Week it was announced Monday evening by the conference office. Loy scored four goals, including two game-winners, and added two assists for a total of 10 points in the Lady Monarchs' 3-0 week.

Loy opened the week with a goal and an assist in a 5-0 shutout over Hofstra. The win gave Old Dominion its 50th straight CAA win dating back to the CAA Tournament championship game back in 1995.

Loy also scored the lone goal in Old Dominion's 1-0 upset over top ranked Maryland. She scored the game-winner two minutes into the second period hitting a penalty corner pass into the left corner of the Terp net, giving Maryland just its second loss of the season.

She finished the week with two goals, including the game-winner, and two assists in a 8-1 victory over Drexel in the CAA regular season finale. The win gave Old Dominion a perfect 7-0 conference mark as Old Dominion went undefeated in conference play for the seventh consecutive season. The win gives the Lady Monarchs the top seed at the upcoming CAA Tournament and also clinched Foreman Field as the host site of the 2002 CAA Championships.

Loy entered last week as the nation's second leading scorer, just one point behind teammate senior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA). On the year, Loy has compiled 56 points on 17 goals and 22 assists.

The Lady Monarchs field hockey team (14-2 overall, 7-0 CAA) returns to action this weekend facing #2 Michigan and #6 Penn State in College Park, PA.
