#10 UNC Defeats #2 ODU, 2-0

CHAPEL HILL, NC- Tenth ranked North Carolina defeated second ranked Old Dominion Saturday afternoon, 2-0 in a battle between one of the nation's longest field hockey rivalries. Sophomore Kelsey Keeran and senior Stephanie Fuller each scored goals for the Tar Heels who are now 4-3, ODU is now 5-2.

With 2:08 remaining in the first half, Keeran got a pass on the break from Alison Stewart on the left side to give North Carolina a 1-0 lead. In the beginning of the second half the Tar Heel's scored again on a penalty corner by Stephanie Fuller.

Old Dominion outshot UNC, 13-11 and received more penalty corners,11-9. ODU goalkeeper Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA.) made eight saves, while Amy Tran of UNC had nine and picked up the shutout. Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA.) led ODU with five shot attempts.

The two teams have met 53 times in the last 22 years, including 11 times in NCAA tournaments. ODU leads the series, 29-22-2. The two teams will meet again on Nov. 2 in Norfolk. The Lady Monarchs travel to William and Mary Sunday for a 2 p.m. CAA match.
