Top Ranked Field Hockey Learns Fate Tonight

The Lady Monarchs (19-3) received 476 points and 20 first place votes in their fourth week at number one in the STX/NFHCA Poll. Wake Forest (16-2), who claimed the ACC Championship title over the weekend with a victory over Maryland, moved up to second place with 457 points and four first place votes. Michigan State (21-2) jumped from fifth to third with 432 points after defeating Michigan in the BIG 10 final. The Wolverines of Michigan (18-3) dropped from second to fourth with 401 points and the Terrapins (16-4) slid down a spot to number five with 385 points.

Representing the CAA, James Madison (13-8), who fell to Old Dominion 14-1 in the CAA semifinals, ranks 12th and William and Mary, who dropped a 2-0 decision to the Lady Monarchs in the CAA final, moved up to 16th. Delaware (10-10) received votes for the second straight week.

Other opponents Old Dominion has faced this season ranked in the final poll include #6 Penn State, #7 Kent State, #9 Princeton, #10 Duke, and #13 UNC.

This week's poll is the final NFHCA Poll of the 2002 season. The STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll has no bearing on selection to the 2002 NCAA Championship field.

The Lady Monarchs captured their seventh straight and 11th overall CAA Championship Title over the weekend. Old Dominion will be appearing in their 22nd straight NCAA Tournament and has won nine NCAA Championship Titles.
