NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion field hockey squad improved its record to 2-0 as they handed visiting Kent State (1-1) a 6-2 defeat at Foreman Field this afternoon. Senior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA) led the way with a goal and two assists, while junior Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) added two goals and assist.

The Lady Monarchs opened the game quickly with Loy connecting off a penalty corner with the pass from Snow just 3:41 into the contest for a 1-0 lead. The Golden Flashes tied the game at 1-1 just minutes later as Helen Jerden reached the back of the Old Dominion net on a penalty corner goal with assists from Kristin Clayton and Rebecca Rahaim. Snow gave the Lady Monarchs a 2-1 advantage entering the half as she converted on penalty stroke in the 33rd minute of play.

Old Dominion proceeded to score three goals within the first five minutes of the second half to race out to a 5-2 lead. During the first penalty corner of the half, Snow chipped the ball over to Loy, who was waiting at the right side of the net to drill in the shot. Senior Tara Herrmann (Perkasie, PA) then netted back-to-back goals, the first during a penalty corner on an assist from Loy and the second off a rebound. Sophomore and 2001 CAA Rookie of the Year, Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Netherlands) added the final Lady Monarch goal of the afternoon for her first goal of the 2002 season at the 10th minute. The Golden Flashes' Kristen Johnson gave Kent State their lone goal of the half at the 17-minute mark.

The Lady Monarchs outshot Kent State 12-6 and outcornered the Golden Flashes 9-6. Old Dominion keeper Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) recorded two saves, while Kent State's Jessica Creeden made five stops.

The field hockey team will return to action next weekend for two games on the road in Maryland. The Lady Monarchs will face CAA newcomer Towson in their first league match-up of the 2002 season on Saturday and travel to long-time rival Maryland on Sunday.

In the day's other game held at Foreman Field, Michigan State (1-1) edged out William and Mary (0-2), 1-0. The Spartans' Annebet Beerman tallied the games' lone goal with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. Beerman had scored both goals in Michigan State's 3-2 overtime loss to Old Dominion on Saturday.
