NORFOLK, VA -- The third ranked Old Dominion field hockey team captured its 50th straight Colonial Athletic Association victory with a 5-0 blanking of Hofstra this evening on Foreman Field. The win, which gives the Lady Monarchs their sixth shutout of the year, improves Old Dominion to 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the CAA, while the Pride fall to 9-5 overall and 1-2 in league play.

The Lady Monarchs have not dropped a match to a CAA opponent in either regular or post-season play since the championship game of the CAA Tournament against James Madison back in 1995.

Senior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA) fired off the game-winner in the sixth minute of play off a penalty corner set up by juniors Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) and Melissa Leonetti (Erdenheim, PA). The goal, career number 61, leaves Snow just one tally shy of ninth place on the all-time ODU career goals leader list. Loy gave Old Dominion at 2-0 lead five minutes before the half, dribbling the ball right down the middle of the circle for a point blank shot at net.

Senior Becky Loy (Loysville, PA) picked up right where the Lady Monarchs finished the first half netting Old Dominion's third goal of the night as she tipped in pass from Snow with under 24 minutes remaining. Sophomore Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Netherlands) then recorded back-to-back goals with hard shots from the top left of the circle to put Old Dominion up 5-0.

On defense, Hofstra netminder senior Christine Hickey (Tinton Falls, NJ) posted 21 saves, the most stops by any CAA goalkeeper this season. Senior midfielder Shannon Watson (South Setauket, NY) also thwarted a Lady Monarch attempt to score with a defensive save. Old Dominion keeper, senior Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA), made four saves on the night.

Old Dominion outshot Hofstra 36-5 and out cornered the Pride 15-3. Senior midfielder and Pride leading scorer Tricia-Ann Greaves (St. Thomas, Barbados) led Hofstra with two shots on the Lady Monarch net.

The field hockey team will return to action on Saturday, October 19th at 1:00 p.m. as they Lady Monarchs face the top ranked Maryland Terrapins. Old Dominion will be looking to avenge a 2-0 loss to the Terps earlier this year.
