Field Hockey Remains At No. 4 In Latest Poll

NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion field hockey team (9-2 overall, 4-0 CAA) remains in the number four position in this week's STX/NFHCA Division I Poll. The Lady Monarchs collected 530 points and received five first place votes while the University of Maryland (10-1) still tops the poll with 589 points and 22 first place votes.

The top five remain the same as last week with Michigan (9-1) in second, Wake Forest (7-2) in third, and Michigan State (10-1) in fifth.

The CAA had seven of the eight teams represented in the poll, with three in the top 20. The Dukes of James Madison remained in eighth, while Delaware slipped one place down to #17. William and Mary, Drexel, Virginia Commonwealth, and Hofstra all received votes.

Other upcoming Lady Monarchs opponents featured in this week's edition of the STX/NFHCA Poll include #6 Penn State, #7 North Carolina, and #14 Princeton.

The Lady Monarchs are coming off one of their most productive weeks of the 2002 season. Old Dominion went 3-0, outscoring its opponents 28-3, outshooting them 86-10, and outcornering them 45-4.

The next poll will be released on Tuesday, October 8th. The STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll has no bearing on selection to the 2002 NCAA DIvision I Championship field.

The Old Dominion field hockey team returns to action this weekend against #14 Princeton on Saturday, October 5th and new CAA rival, #17 Delaware, on Sunday, October 6th.
