NORFOLK, Va. – For the second time this season, ODU men’s soccer sophomore Mertcan Akar was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week.

Akar put up a stellar performance in the net on Saturday night against No. 13 Kentucky with seven saves. Also in the 2-0 win over Kentucky, Akar tallied his fourth shutout, making that ranked for 26th in the country.

The sophomore has a save percentage of .750 and has played 850 minutes in the net for the Monarchs.

Akar, a transfer who has started in the net since he stepped foot at Old Dominion in 2017, has only let through ten goals this season. The Monarchs have won four straight games with the help of Akar in net.
