ODU Hosts Charlotte (10AM) and Appalachian State (2PM) on Sunday

NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team (6-1) will host a double-header this Sunday Feb. 4, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. ODU will take on conference foe Charlotte (2-0) 10:00 a.m. EST and then will face Appalachian State (2-2) at 2:00 p.m. EST.
Last season in their match against Appalachian State, the Monarchs walked away with a 7-0 victory. The Monarchs are coming off a 4-0 win over VCU. Old Dominion is currently riding a three-match win-streak.
Charlotte head coach Michaela Gorman is in the midst of her 15th season with the 49ers. In her previous 14 years with the program, she led the Niners to double-digit wins 11 times. Her three best seasons came in 2006, 2009 and 2012 when Charlotte won 16 games in each of those seasons. In addition, she has coached seven of the programs Top 10 all-times singles wins leaders, including the all-time leader Kathy Robey (78). Gorman has also faired well in doubles during her time with the Niners. To this point, she has coached eight of the Top 10 doubles victory leaders in program history, including the leader Ashleigh Murray. Under Gorman's leadership, the 49ers have produced seven all C-USA performers as well.
Meet Appalachian State
In his second season as head coach of Appalachian State, Blake Mosley has the Mountaineers off to a 2-2 start. Last season, in Mosley's first with the team, the Mountaineers had four players set career highs in singles wins. He also coached the first pair of doubles tandems to both win at least eight matches in a season since 2012. Prior to joining Appalachian State, Mosley was an assistant at the University of Colorado from 2013-2016. During his time with the Buffaloes, four of his players earned All Pac-12 honors and five earned All Pac-12 academic honors. In addition, he helped lead Colorado to a No. 44 national ranking in 2014-15 which was it's highest since 2009. Mosley also played tennis collegiately from 1991-1995 for the College of Charleston.
Looking Ahead for ODU
Following their double-header this weekend, the Monarchs will travel to Norman, Okla. to take on the Oklahoma Sooners on Feb. 10. That begins a stretch of six straight road matches for the Monarchs who will also take on Wichita State, Penn, Temple and C-USA opponent Marshall before finishing this stretch against West Virginia on March 4. ODU will then play its last seven matches at home before hosting the C-USA tournament at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center beginning April 19.
