NORFOLK, Va. -- In front of a crowd of 4,311 at Harbor Park, No. 25 Old Dominion fell to Virginia Tech, 8-4, in midweek action on Tuesday afternoon.
After the teams exchanged zeroes through the first three innings, Virginia Tech (23-29) scored the game's first runs with two in the top of the fourth.
Old Dominion (35-17) responded with three in the bottom of the frame for its only lead of the game. The Hokies then scored a run in each of the next four innings to pull out the 8-4 victory.
Culver Lamb led Old Dominion at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Turner Bishop was the only other Monarch with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Kurt Sinnen and Nick Walker both drove in a run for ODU.
On the mound, Morgan Maguire received the loss after allowing two earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Freshman Michael Blanchard made his fourth start of the season, allowing two runs in 3.1 innings.
The Hokies' Dylan Hall earned the win with 4.2 innings of relief.
The Monarchs wrap up the regular season this weekend at Florida Atlantic. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
