NORFOLK, Va. -- Jennie Simms scored 37 points to lead the Old Dominion women's basketball team over Davis & Elkins, 82-65, in an exhibition game on Tuesday evening at the Ted Constant Center.
Destinee Young added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Odegua Oigbokie, in her first action since missing all of last season with an injury, recorded 11 points and nine boards.
The Lady Monarchs jumped out to an early lead, as ODU shot 52.9 percent and forced 10 Senator turnovers in the opening quarter to lead 26-10 after the first. However, Davis & Elkins fought back in the second quarter to grab a lead late in the second and carry a 37-33 lead into halftime.
ODU responded in the second half, outscoring the Senators, 49-28, after halftime. In the second half, the Lady Monarchs outrebounded Davis & Elkins, 39-10, which led to a 31-10 advantage for ODU in second-chance points for the game.
The Lady Monarchs shot 57.1 percent in the final frame to close out the game. Keyana Brown also reached double figures with 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc and freshman Jessica Munoz added two points, 10 rebounds and two steals.
ODU shot 40.5 percent from the field as team and, defensively, forced the Senators into 23 total turnovers. Stephanie Wooten paced Davis & Elkins with 26 points and 12 assists.
