Smither Named CAA Rookie Of The Week

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion freshman Katelyn Smither (Suffolk, Va.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Smither, a native a Suffolk, Va. who played collegiately at Lakeland High School, served as a reserve and helped ODU to a 2-0 week with four goals, including a hat trick in ODU's CAA opener against Drexel.
One of five different Lady Monarchs to tally a goal in Saturday's 5-2 victory over #16 Richmond, Smither's goal gave the Lady Monarchs a 4-0 lead entering half-time. On Sunday, she captured a career-high three goals as ODU downed Drexel 7-0 in their third shutout of the year. Smither scored three straight goals, her first putting the Lady Monarchs up 3-0 at the half, and the next two coming within a span of 19 seconds in the opening minutes of the second half.
To date Smither has accumulated 12 points on six goals and ranked fourth on the Lady Monarch squad in scoring. She is currently tied for seventh in the CAA in goals (6) and tied for ninth in goals per game (0.60).
