NORFOLK, VA--The 2009-10 Old Dominion University men's basketball schedule will feature 12 post season teams from a year ago, as well as tournament in Texas, an ESPN Bracketbusters game, a road game with Georgetown and nine home CAA contests.

"As a result of a young team that grew and captured the CollegeInsider.com title, we are taking on a very ambitious and challenging slate of games, which should be very exciting." says head coach Blaine Taylor. " The South Padre Invitational is great for our program with first and second round games at ODU, then two games in Texas. We have also been quite fortunate to land home and home games against Georgetown and Dayton."

Five of the Monarch opponents, Dayton, Chattanooga, Mississippi State, Missouri and VCU, were in the NCAA tournament. Missouri advanced to the Elite Eight, while Dayton reached the second round.

Georgetown, Duquesne and George Mason competed in the NIT, while Liberty, JMU and Mount St. Mary's were in the CIT and Richmond reached the semi-finals of the CBI tournament. In all, ODU will play teams from nine different conferences which include the Southeast, BIG EAST, Big 12, Atlantic 10, Conference USA, Southern, MEAC, Big South and Northeast Conference .

"Along with a very tough CAA schedule, ODU has the opportunity to compete against some outstanding Non-conference opponents," said Athletic Director Jim Jarrett. " Away games against Georgetown, Dayton, the South Padre Island Invitational and Richmond along with home games against Charlotte, Duquesne, Chattanooga, and Marsahll present great developmental opportunities for our team."

The Monarchs will host Bethune-Cookman in its home opener on Nov. 15 as part of the South Padre Island Tournament. ODU will also host Southern Conference champion Chattanooga on Nov. 24th in game two of the San Padre Island Tournament, then travel to Texas, Nov. 27 and 28 to play either Missouri, Mississippi State or Richmond.

The Monarchs will travel to Liberty on Nov. 19, Richmond on Dec. 2, Dayton on Dec. 11 and Georgetown on Dec. 19. ODU last played Dayton in 2002-03 in Norfolk. The ESPN Bracketbusters game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20, on the road. The opponent will be announced in early February.

The Monarchs will play an 18-game CAA schedule, opening at home on Dec. 5th. ODU will host VCU, George Mason, James Madison, William and Mary, Georgia State, Drexel, Hofstra, Northeastern and Towson. ODU will have CAA road games against Towson, Delaware, Northeastern, UNC Wilmington, VCU, JMU, W&M, George Mason and Georgia State. The CAA schedule will be announced at a later date.

The CAA Championships will again be held at the Richmond Coliseum, March 5-8, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Monarchs will host exhibition games against Barton on Nov. 2 and Elizabeth City State on Nov. 7. ODU averaged over 7,000 fans per game in regular season and CAA home contests.

"I would like to thank athletic director Jim Jarrett along with Jim Corrigan for their diligent efforts in putting together this outstanding schedule,' added Taylor. "The center piece of any schedule is the CAA race, which will be a great one. We have been requested by the league to be patient, some opponent tip times and game dates will come at a later date."
