NORFOLK, VA-- The ODU Monarchs hit the road for the final time this season when
they visit the Terriers of Wofford of the Southern Conference in a two-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.and finishing Saturday at 2 p.m. at Russell C. King Field.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
The Monarchs (28-24) are scheduled to start junior lefthander Andy Roberts (4-3/2.78) on Friday and senior righthander Mike Ney ((0-1/5.94) on Saturday. Roberts
ranks sixth in the CAA in ERA and ninth is opponent batting average at .241. Ney's
last outing was senior day against George Mason where he lost a 1-0 one-hitter
to the Patriots.
ODU junior rightfielder Ben Verlander is currently 10th in the CAA in hitting at .367, tied for second in homers with Delaware's Nick Ferdinand at 10, second
in total bases with 119 and fifth in slugging at.633. Verlander has crossed home
plate a team best 44 times along with 11 stolen bases.
Sophomore leftfielder Josh Eldridge ranks seventh in the CAA in RBI with 47 and
he leads the team with 12 multiple RBI games. Eldridge comes into the series with a five-game hitting streak, while sophomore catcher Michael Perez has a six-game hitting streak and is second on the team in homers with six. Freshman centerfielder Connor Myers leads the team with 12 steals.
The Terriers (20-34) are scheduled to start righthander Jesse Morris (7-5/4.24) on Friday and righthander Luke Leftwich (2-5/7.46) on Saturday.
Josh Hyman leads Wofford in hitting at .340 with six homers, 24 stolen bases and 35 RBI, followed by Seth Neely at .317 with 35 RBI and 16 stolen bases. As a team,
Wofford is hitting .263 while ODU is hitting .278.
