NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women’s lacrosse team has announced the addition of eight student-athletes for the 2014 season, including five from Maryland and one apiece from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia. Maggi Buckley, Megan Cameron, Ijeoma Ikpe, Haley Knudsen, Morgan Marrale, Colby Muller, Megan Topper and Carly Williams will all be part of the Lady Monarchs’ roster this upcoming season.  

 

Maggi Buckley (Northern HS/Md.)

Maggi Buckley was a four-year varsity starter and two-year captain, who accumulated 673 saves throughout her high school career. Buckley was a honorable mention All-MET in 2012, and made the First Team All-Southern Maryland Athletic Conference, as well as the All-County team in 2011 and 2013. Last year, she earned the Northern High School’s Female Senior Athlete of the Year Award, as well as the Northern High School Coaches’ Award.

 

Heather Holt on Maggi Buckley:
"Maggi is a confident goalkeeper with amazing stick-skills. Her mechanics and great game sense will help to direct and lead our defenders to become a stronger unit. We are thrilled to have her join our program and become a Monarch!"


Megan Cameron (Conestoga HS/Pa.)
This past season, Megan Cameron ranked within the top three on her high school team for goals and assists. Cameron scored 28 goals and dished out 14 assists last season at Conestoga High School. She also caused 10 turnovers, seven groundballs, and won five draw controls. Cameron got it done in the classroom as well, as she was a four-year honor roll student.

 

Heather Holt on Megan Cameron:
"We really look forward to Megan joining our squad this season. Megan works extremely hard all over the field and is improving her game each year. She is a competitive and strong midfielder who will bring a new tone to each practice and game."


Ijeoma Ikpe (James Caldwell HS/N.J.)
Ijeoma Ikpe was a 2013 New Jersey Senior All-Star after netting 39 goals, distributing 31 assists and scooping up 72 groundballs during her senior campaign. Also during her senior season, Ikpe led her team to a Super Essex Conference title, as well as a state semifinal appearance. Throughout Ikpe’s high school career, she compiled a 19-5 overall record. Ikpe was named to the Academic All-American Team, the American Division First Team, the Essex County All-Tournament Team and the First Team All-League in the Freedom Division.

 

Heather Holt on Ijeoma Ikpe:
"Ijeoma is a strong midfielder with great size and amazing field-vision. She is a very versatile player, who works hard on and off the ball. I am confident that Ijeoma will have an amazing career ahead of her at ODU."


Haley Knudsen (Loudoun County HS/Va.)
Haley Knudsen scored 61 goals last season, which ranked No. 17 within the MET. She was named to the All-District First Team and the All-Region First Team. Knudsen also earned honorable mention honors for the All-Metro Team. Last season, Knudsen dished out 32 assists, won 34 draw controls, gathered 24 ground balls and collected 19 takeaways.

 

Heather Holt on Haley Knudsen:
"Haley is a seasoned defender who lead her team in high school. Haley's leadership on the field and will to win, combined with her solid athletic skills will enable our defensive unit to become even stronger in the upcoming years."


Morgan Marrale (Century HS/Md.)
Morgan Marrale will join the Lady Monarchs roster after tallying a total of 68 points last year; she connected on 39 goals and 29 assists. Marrale’s performance earned her First Team All-County and First Team MVAL All-Conference accolades.

 

Heather Holt on Morgan Marrale:
"Morgan is a true athlete with amazing lacrosse skills. She is a hard worker on the field and has an incredible nose for the goal, which will be a great asset to our attack. Her work ethic mixed with her competitive nature will be a force on the field."

 

Colby Muller (Damascus HS/Md.)
Last season, Colby Muller scored 35 goals on only 45 shots and also assisted 37 goals, which led Damascus High School to a perfect 12-0 record and a divisional title. Muller’s assist-count ranked No. 14 in the Washington Metro Area, as she earned honorable mention for the Washington Post’s All-Met Team. During her senior season, Muller reached the 100-goal and the 100-assist mark for her high school career. She was named to the Gazette First Team, as well as the County Coaches’ Award First Team.

 

Heather Holt on Colby Muller:
"Colby is a creative player and will be a strong midfielder for our program. She is a true team player with a great attitude and a confident stick. We look forward to her positive energy directly effecting our team on the field."


Megan Topper (Liberty HS/Md.)
Megan Topper accumulated a total of 61 points last season on 49 goals and 12 assists. She was named the MVP of Liberty High School’s lacrosse team last year. Topper was named to the first team for her conference and county, and was also selected for the Carroll County All-Star Team.

 

Heather Holt on Megan Topper:
"Megan is tough, aggressive, and a true competitor.  Megan distributes hard accurate feeds to her teammates, as well as strong shots on goal. She is a smart player that will be a threat on attack every time she sets a foot on the field. We are thrilled to have Megan make an immediate impact on our team."

 

Carly Williams (Mount de Sales Academy/Md.)

Carly Williams missed all but a single game during her senior season due to injury, but in that one game Williams netted three goals and had one assist. During Williams’ junior season, she was responsible for 62 goals, 45 assists, 12 draw controls and 11 groundballs. Williams was a tri-sport athlete at Mount de Sales Academy, as she also played tennis and ran indoor track. In the fall of 2012, Williams won the IAAM Tennis Championship. Williams was enlisted on the honor roll throughout high school.


Heather Holt on Carly Williams:
"Carly is a quick attacker who works hard to create scoring opportunities for herself, as well as her teammates. Carly dominates the midfield by heading transition opportunities, and ultimately is very effective in working the ball up the field. We know that her strong work ethic will be contagious and help elevate this program to new levels."
