NORFOLK, Va. – On Saturday, Aug. 24, Old Dominion University will host its first Monarch Fan Appreciation Day to kick off the 2013-14 athletic seasons for all of ODU’s sports. The event will be held at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium from 4-6 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
The activities begin with a Football 101 session with the ODU football coaching staff. Fans will have the chance to join the ODU coaches on the field as they explain the basic offensive and defensive schemes in the Monarchs’ playbook.
Immediately following the Football 101 session attendees have the opportunity to interact with Monarch coaches and student-athletes from all 18 sports and receive autographs from all their favorite Monarchs. A variety of activities will take also place, including Bunji jumping, rock climbing, obstacle courses, putt-putt golf, skills drills, and more.
Fans will also be able to get a sneak peak at the 2013 football team entrance video, have their picture taken in an official ODU football jersey, and participate in a traditions camp with the Monarch Marching Band and spirit squads as they teach everyone the ODU fight song and “Ice Cream and Cake.” New concession items will also be on sale along with free sampling of new Pepsi products. Finally, everyone will want to stay till the conclusion of the event when all fans will have the opportunity to experience the football team's stadium entrance with a run through the tunnel.
Monarch Fan Appreciation Day is open to the public and parking will be available in the 49th street Parking Garage.
