Old Dominion University has announced today the kick off times for the 2013 football schedule, as well as the Monarchs 2014 non-conference schedule.

The Monarchs will host four consecutive home games this fall at 6 p.m., beginning with Howard University on Sept. 14, The Citadel on Sept. 21, Albany on Sept. 28 and Liberty University on Oct. 5. ODU returns to Foreman Field at SB Ballard Stadium on Nov. 2 to host Rhode Island at 2 p.m., and will complete the home slate on Nov. 16 against Campbell University, which replaces Charlotte on the schedule. The kick off time for that game will be announced in the near future.

“The 6 p.m. kick-off time has worked well for our fans and team for our games in September and October as those months are historically warm in Hampton Roads and a later kick off helps us stay away from the heat of the day” says ODU athletic director Dr. Wood Selig.

The 2014 non-conference schedule is highlighted with an ACC and SEC opponent. The Monarchs will host regional rival Hampton University on Aug. 30, travel to N.C. State on Sept. 6, host Mid-American conference member Eastern Michigan on Sept. 13, and travel to Vanderbilt on Nov. 1. ODU’s remaining eight games will be against Conference USA opponents.

“Our 2014 non-conference schedule will be as exciting as our 2013 slate for our team and fans,” says Head Coach Bobby Wilder. “Traveling to Raleigh to play N.C. State of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Sept. 6 and then to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt of the SEC offers our fans and student athletes a great opportunity to be exposed to big-time football environments. I applaud Bruce Stewart, our senior associate athletic director, for his efforts in putting together another outstanding schedule that continues our commitment to playing the best to be the best.”

The addition of Campbell to the 2013 schedule will mark the Monarchs fifth meeting with the Camels, who have played every year since ODU reinstituted football in 2009. ODU holds a 4-0 record in the series. The schedule change comes as a result of a late decision by Charlotte and ODU.

“Following the release of the ODU-Charlotte game from the 2014 schedule, both institutions believed it was in the best interest for our programs that we drop the series until we meet as Conference USA members in 2015,” says Selig. “We look forward to initiating our rivalry in two years in the league.”
