NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team (0-3) returns home for a match against Radford on Sunday, September 1, at the ODU Soccer Complex. The first 250 ODU students to arrive to Sunday’s game will receive a free hotdog and drink (valid student ID required).
Radford, back-to-back Big South champions, was selected as the favorite in the 2013 Big South Conference Preseason Poll. The Highlanders have appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times in the past five seasons.
Senior goalkeeper Che' Brown earned the 2012 Big South Defensive Player of the Year award and was named the 2013 Preseason Big South Defensive Player of the Year a couple weeks ago. Brown finished the 2012 campaign ranked No. 11 in the nation with an .880 save percentage and a Big South record 13 shutouts. Radford’s senior keeper was also named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's ‘Preseason Top 10 Division I Goalkeepers to Watch List’.
Radford returns nine of 11 starters from a squad that posted 14-3-4 overall and 7-0-4 Big South records last season. Tyler Drake, a three-time all-conference selection and senior classmate Sydney Golden anchor the center of the defensive unit and are flanked by juniors Stephanie Herb and Caitlin Annear.
Returning to the middle is senior co-captain and last year's leading goal scorer Rachel Conway (7G, 3A), while the three forwards, Julie Ruh’e (6G, 3 A), Asyia Mitchell (3G, 2A) and Sahar Aflaki (4G, 3A) are back for another season.
