NORFOLK, Va. -  The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. on Sunday, Oct. 13 for a 1 p.m. showdown with Florida Atlantic (2-8-3). Last Matches
Last Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex the Lady Monarchs were able to defeat East Carolina in their C-USA home opener on Homecoming 2-0. ODU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play after Jessie Klamut placed a ball off of the right post and into the net for her second goal of the season. ECU had the opportunity to knot the score in the 15th minute, but freshman goalie Meredith Lenox made a remarkable save off Jena Geist’s one on one which allowed the Lady Monarchs to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, ODU held on to the one goal advantage until the 87th minute, when Jackie Stroud capitalized on an indirect free kick by tapping the ball to Taylor Smith for the Lady Monarchs second goal of the evening. The 2-0 victory improved the young ODU squad to 1-2 in conference play.

On Sunday, ODU was defeated by Texas San Antonio 2-1 at the ODU Soccer Complex. UTSA grabbed an early lead after a goal in the 8th minute by Anissa Munson. The Lady Monarchs were able to rebound in the 35th minute as Alexis Thomas intercepted a UTSA pass and scored on an open net. However, just eight minutes into the second half, the Roadrunners’ Happy Orere-Amadu capitalized on a beautiful pass from Kaytee O’Brien and recaptured the lead for UTSA. The goal was enough to secure the victory, dropping the Lady Monarchs to 1-3 in C-USA play.

Florida Atlantic – Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 - 1 p.m.
ODU will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. for a C-USA matchup against Florida Atlantic (2-8-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Owls are on a two-game losing skid after being upended by UTEP 2-1 OT last Sunday and Middle Tennessee State 1-0 last Friday. Florida Atlantic will be searching for their first victory since setting a record in a 10-0 routing of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sept. 15. The Owls are headlined by sophomore midfielder Claire Emslie, who leads her squad with three goals on the season. Patrick Baker, the head coach of Florida Atlantic, took the reigns last spring after previous stints at Pennsylvania, Florida State and Georgia. Baker holds the distinguished honor of being the only coach NCAA history to lead a team to the NCAA tournament in Division I, II and III.
