The Monarchs led 69-68 with 3:00 left after a free throw by Dimitri Batten, but Curtis Washington’s dunk at the 2:47 mark put the Panthers up 70-69. Batten hit another free throws to tie the game at 70-70 with 1:51 left
The Panthers then outscored ODU, 9-3 in the final 1:39 as Ryan Harrow hit six straight free throws to give GSU the win and hand ODU its fifth straight loss.
There were six lead changes and 11 ties in the game. ODU's largest lead was six, 26-20 with 7:36 left in the first half, and took a 37-35 halftime lead thanks to .550 (11-20) shooting from the field led by Bacote’s 18 points.
ODU played the last 3:49 of the game without leading scorer Bacote who fouled out with 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and 5-for-7 shooting from three-point range as well as four three throws.
As a team, ODU shot .510 (25-49) from the floor and hit 10 three-pointers in 22 tries as well as .722 from the free throw line. Georgia State shot .457 (21-46) from the field and hit 32-of-42 from the free throw line. The Monarchs also outrebounded GSU, 31-23.
Joining Harrow in double figures for the Panthers was Manny Atkins with 15, Devonta White with 13 and R.J. Hunter with 11.
The Monarchs return to action Wednesday night when they host new CAA member, The College of the Charleston at 7 p.m. at the Constant Center.
