ODU Basketball Teams Honor Norfolk Public School Students

NORFOLK, VA-- ODU Basketball teams Honors Norfolk Public School Students Beginning with tonight's contest against James Madison, Norfolk elementary school students that read four or more books during the fall eight-week program, will be provided a complimentary ticket to selected men's and women's basketball games.

On November 6, 2008, members of the Old Dominion University women's basketball team participated in the Monarchs Reading Program at two Norfolk elementary schools. The Monarch contest vs. James Madison will honor the first group of students for their successful completion of the program.

The program is a partnership between Old Dominion University athletics, Global Spectrum (operator/manager, Ted Constant Convocation Center) and Norfolk Public Schools.

In partnership with Norfolk Public Schools, 20,000 official bookmarks were distributed to students in each elementary school. Every child that read four or more books during the eight-week program received a free ticket to a Monarchs or Lady Monarchs home basketball game.
