Athletic Marketing Staff Wins National Awards

ORLANDO - The Old Dominion University athletic marketing and creative services staff earned three gold, two silver and a bronze award for outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions in 2006/07 by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).

ODU was recognized at the 16th annual NACMA convention June 7-10 in Orlando, FL. A total of 922 entries were received in 16 categories for the competition. Each category is divided into three groups based on school size and conference affiliations. ODU's awards were in Group II.

First place (gold) recognition was received in New Revenue Generating Ideas for the football campaign with Toyota, Sponsorship Program with Verizon Wireless and Promotional T-shirt design for the women's basketball Pink Out promotion supporting the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.

ODU took two silver awards for single day promotions for Olympic Sports for its capacity men's soccer game with defending NCAA champion Maryland, and the student promotion award for the same game. Additionally, the marketing staff captured a bronze award for Olympic Sports Promotion and its first wrestling match at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

The athletic marketing staff was comprised of Debbie White, Sr. Associate Athletic Director, Chuck Gray, director of Athletic Marketing and Corporate Sponsorships, Colin Smith, assistant director of marketing, David Weisser, director of game atmosphere and student promotions, and creative design and support from Tina Price, director of creative services and publications, Chrisie Henn, assistant publications director, and Jamere McKnight, graduate assistant.
