Alyssa Dragon Fills Out Women's Lacrosse Recruiting Class

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Lady Monarchs lacrosse team welcomes Alyssa Dragon (Bridgewater, N.J.) to an already impressive incoming class of recruits. Dragon, sister of current Monarch wrestler Roy, will join a class of six others as rookies in 2008-09. She joins Mary Bermingham (Annandale, Va.), Rebecca Hartrum (Springfield, Pa.), Cory Johnson (Ellicott City, Md.), Hannah McBee (Middletown, Md.), Rebecca Reymann (Catonsville, Md.) and Sarah Wright (Cazenovia, N.Y.).

HAARLEM, The Netherlands -- Kendal Volz (Baylor; Bulverde, Texas) caught pinch-hitter Yoandrys Urgelles looking on a 2-2 slider for the third out of the ninth, stranding runners at second and third as the USA Baseball National Team defeated Cuba 1-0 in Sunday's Haarlem Baseball Week pool-play action at Pim Mullier Stadium. Team USA improved to 9-0 on its 2008 tour and is the only remaining undefeated team at Haarlem Baseball Week.

This is the fifth shutout for Team USA this summer under the direction of ODU head coach Jerry Meyers who is serving aspitching coach.

Tiffany Snow (Escondido, Calif.), Angie Loy (Loysville, Va.), Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.), and Caroline Nichols (Va. NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion University athletics enjoyed another outstanding season, winning .602 percent of its intercollegiate contests toplace second in the 30th annual Virginia Sports Information Director's Association Division I All-Sports Survey. The University of Virginia won.619 percent of its contest to take the championship. James Madison finished third overall at .601. The Monarchs had two teams reach their respective rounds of 16 in the NCAA tournaments, eight individuals compete inNational Championship events, two Colonial Athletic Association Championships, three CAA Coach of the years, and three CAA rookies of the Year.Two student athletes were named All-Americans and a total of 20 earned Academic All-American honors. The women's field hockey squad compiledthe highest grade point average in the nation at 3.68.In all, ODU athletic teams compiled a 177-116-5 record (.602 percent) for their contests in 2007-08. The women's teams won ..609, and the men's teams won .597.
