Assistant Swimming Coach

Old Dominion University invites applications for the position of Assistant Swimming Coach, (full-time, 12-month faculty-administrative position for men's and women's program).

Responsibilities to include but not limited to: assisting the head coach in all phases of the program, on deck coaching at practices and meets, workout organization, recruitment of qualified student-athletes, review academic progress of student-athletes, knowledge and commitment to compliance concerning University, CAA and NCAA rules, fund raising, promotion of the swimming and diving program and other sport-related responsibilities.

Qualifications: Master's degree or bachelor's degree with experience equivalent to an advanced degree required. Demonstrated experience in swimming coaching experience at the high school, preparatory school, college, or club level required. Assistant Men's and Women's Sailing Coach

Old Dominion University invites applications for the position of Assistant Men's and Women's Sailing Coach, a full time 12 month, faculty-administration position. This salaried position includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities include assisting the Head Coach in administrating, coaching, and advising the varsity sailing program. To include: on-the-water coaching, team travel administration, budget oversight, practice/training organization, regatta management, recruitment of qualified student-athletes, monitoring the academic progress of team members, knowledge of NCAA and ICSA rules, sailing instruction, fleet management, fund-raising and promotion of the sailing program within the community.

Qualifications: Master's degree or bachelor's with equivalent experience, collegiate sailing experience (athlete/coach) required. Sailing coaching or teaching experience, collegiate experience (athlete/coach) preferred, USSA Level 2, or equivalent, preferred; demonstrated advanced sailing skills; effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills required. Previous fund-raising or marketing experience is advantageous. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Graduate Assistant for Compliance

Old Dominion University Athletic Department invites applications for an individual wishing to pursue a career in athletic administration to serve as the Graduate Assistant for Compliance. The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, and assist in the overall operation of the Athletics Compliance Office. Duties include monitoring recruiting/playing and practice season, updating and maintaining compliance website, producing monthly compliance newsletter, assembling educational materials, and general office functions and other duties as assigned.

Successful applicants must have excellent computing (e.g. word processing, Excel) and communication skills. Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree and admission to graduate school at Old Dominion University.

The position runs from August 2009 through May 2010. This position includes a $12,000 stipend dispersed over the course of the 10 month position.

Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

Graduate Assistant Position
Athletic Ticket and Camp Office

I. During the course of this Graduate Administrative Assistant, the student will:

  • Gain valuable experience in a collegiate athletic setting
  • Gain experience working as a team, as well as, individually
  • Enhance his/her communication and interpersonal skills internally as well as with the general public
  • Work with business office on the accounting of the office revenues and expenditures
  • Obtain knowledge of computerized ticketing system
  • Work with athletic summer camp office in preparing and implementing camp registrations, check-ins, and financial reconciliations
  • Supervise student staff at ticketed athletic events

II. Job Description: Activities and Responsibilities

GA will assist the full-time ticket/business office staff in several key functions, including daily office procedures and game day functions. This will include, but not be limited to, student supervision, data entry, customer service, cash depositing and accouting. Strong communication skills and computer skills preferred. Experience working in collegiate athletics and/or a ticket office/business office and knowledge of computerized ticketing software preferred but not mandatory

III. Duration of GA position: August 2009-May 2010
IV. Stipend: $12,000 per 10 months

V. Preferred Academic Program: Masters in Sports Management or MBA Program

VI. Position Qualifications:

  • Enrolled full-time in sport management or MBA program
  • Excellent interpersonal and social skills
  • Experience in an athletic department
  • Computer skills to include the following:
    • a. Access, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Well organized and capable of gathering information and creating appropriate reports
