NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University sailing teams completed a busy weekend on the water with a 13th place finish in the Truxtun Umsted and a 15th place finish for the Lady Monarchs in the St. Mary’s Women’s Regatta wile ODU placed third out of six teams in the Pirate 3-on-3 team race.
After the opening day with limited sailing opportunities due to a lack of wind, Yale won the prestigious Truxtun Umsted on Sunday with 327 points. ODU took 13th with 536 points in the 20-team race in Annapolis. In the A-Division race, senior skipper Dillon Paiva and junior crew Chloe Constants placed 11th with 126 points. Also taking 11th in the B-Division race was freshman skipper Esteban Forrer and junior Julia Wiesner with 122 points. Freshman Joe David took 19th in the C-Division race while senior Zachary Runci finished eighth with 117 points in the D-Division race.
The 15th ranked Lady Monarchs took 15th at the St. Mary’s Women’s Regatta with a score of 272. In the A-Division race, junior skipper Corina Radtke along with senior crew Shannon Wilkins and junior crew Rachel Austin took 16th with 150 points while sophomore skipper Andrea Luna and junior skipper Rachel Austin coupled with junior crew Alexa Cavalieri and freshman crew Grace Mason took 10th in the B-Division race with 122 points.
In the Pirate 3-on-3 team race, Old Dominion finished third, going 7-8 on the day while St. Mary’s won, going 14-1 and Cornell took second, going 12-3.
Old Dominion returns home to host the Aaron Szambecki Team Race in Norfolk next weekend.
