NORFOLK, VA - The Monarch sailing team took seventh out of 18 competitors at the American Trophy MAISA Conference Championships. Only the top four teams qualify to represent MAISA in the National Championship. Old Dominion had 193 points, the first place team Hobart William Smith College won with 111 points.

The Championships, hosted by ODU, was made up of 10 A division races and eight B division races. Racing A division for the Monarchs was 2005-06 team MVP Charles Higgins, and crew Jennifer Adams and Ryan Kozoriz. The A division sailors took fifth place with 88 points. Old Dominion recorded 105 points in B division as Bobby Noonan, Jaclyn Finney, and Bryan Otis sailed to a seventh place finish.

Conditions during the regatta saw high winds 12-25 mph out of the North-Northeast for most of the competition. Windward leeward courses were sailed twice around with a gate and goldcups. One protest was heard resulting in disqualification, while two protests were found to be invalid due to improper hailing of the protestee.

The Lady Monarch sailors compete May 24th in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's National Championships.
