Lady Monarch Sailors In First Place After 12 Races

HONOLULU, HI - The Old Dominion University women's sailing squad finished the first day of the 2002 ICSA Women's North American Collegiate Sailing National Championships in first place with 45 points after races. Regatta host and defending National Champion University of Hawaii is in second place with 54 points, followed by St. Mary's College of Maryland with 60. Sailing for ODU who ranked second nationally during the regular season are Sally Barkow (Nashotah, WI.), Cara Gibbons-Neff (Annapolis, MD.), Corrie Clement (Metarie, LA.), Lliz Bower (Fairport, NY.) and alternates Debbie Capozzi (Bayport, LA.) And Anna Tunnicliffe (Perrysburg, OH). Old Dominion's B divison boat skippered by Corrie Clement with Tunniclife, and Bower had two first place finishes one second and two thirds for a total of 14 points in their six races, 14 points better than their closest opponent. The A-Division boat skippered by Sally Barkow along with crew Gibons-Neff and Capozzi had two second place finishes and a total of 31 points in their six races. Racing will continue today.
