Old Dominion Sailing Finishes Third At The Laser South Qualifier

Bobby Noonan leads the Monarch Sailing team to a third place finish at the Laser South Qualifier this weekend, with 104 points. This finish qualifies him to compete in the MAISA Men's Single-handed competition. The event was held in decent breezy conditions, with 18 total races, in Annapolis, MD, at the United States Naval Academy. Brian McEwing placed 11th with 184 points and Brendan Gay placed 12th with 216 points. Washington College placed first with 39 points. Also this weekend, the Monarchs competed for the Senator's Cup in the Saint Mary's Open placing seventh in A division and eighth in B division, finishing in seventh place overall, with 222 points. The event was held in light southeasterly breezes, with Gold Cup, Triangle Windward, and Windward/Lee/Windward courses. Racing in A division were Mike Brown, Brittany Bowen, and Bryan Otis who finished seventh with 105 points. Placing eighth in B division with 117 points were Gillen Elder and Jaci Finney. Hobart and William Smith College won the event with 103 points. The Sailing Monarchs compete for the Denmark Trophy, MAISA Sloops, and the Tom Curtis Regatta next weekend October 1-2.
