NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 12 Old Dominion University coed sailing team took fifth place at the Sherman Hoyt Trophy race and sixth place at the KP Dinghy Open to conclude a solid weekend on the water up north.

At the Hoyt Trophy race in Providence, R.I., ODU finished fifth out of 18 teams as senior skipper Dillon Paiva was paired with his brother, freshman crew Cooper Paiva in the A-Division race as they finished 11th with 119 points. Freshman skipper Esteban Forrer continues to be impressive in his first season as he finished second alongside junior crew Julia Wiesner in the B-Division race with 62 points.

At the KP Dinghy Open in Kings Point, N.Y., ODU placed sixth out of 20 teams. Sophomore skipper Daniel Lochner and freshman crew Carly Peterson took sixth with 118 points in the A-Division race while junior skipper Mark Miedama and freshman crew Kaylie Gallagher took seventh with 120 points in the B-Division race.

A couple of big events wrap up October next weekend as ODU travels to the Top 9 Invite in Throggs Neck, N.Y. and to the War Memorial in Kings Point, N.Y.
