ODU Sailing Takes First in A Division; Seventh Overall at War Memorial

NORFOLK, VA - ODU Sailing earned a seventh place finish at the War Memorial Regatta this past weekend with 180 points. Old Dominion hosted the event in blustery 12-24mph north-northwest winds on Saturday with FJ's sailing eight races in A and B divisions around gold cups and windward-leewards with gates. Sunday's racing included six other A and B division races in west-northwest winds 3-15mph. The top eight teams in the competition qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championships November 12-13. In A division, Charles Higgins (Arlington, TX) skippered as Jennifer Adams (Montclair, VA), and Ryan Kozoriz (Yorktown,VA) took turns crewing finishing first place for Old Dominion with 56 points. David Tunnicliffe (Pittsburgh, PA) and Jaclyn Finney (Hampton, VA) paired up for the first couple races of B division, but as the wind picked up Bobby Noonan (Fort Lauderdale, FL) and Bryan Otis (Reston, VA) were brought in to add more weight to the boat. ODU finished ninth in B division with 124 points. The Seahawks of Saint Mary's College took first at the regatta with 109 points. Sailing Monarchs Cara DiSanti (Seacliff, NY), Elyssa Albert (Purcellville, VA), Alissa Ayers (Trenton, NJ), and Jaclyn Finney will travel to Bronx, NY this weekend for the MAISA Women's Fall Championship.
