LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Old Dominion University sailing team is set to open 2013 by competing in the 28th annual Rose Bowl Regatta on Saturday, Jan. 5 and Sunday, Jan. 6.

The event is hosted by the University of Southern California at the U.S. Sailing Center in Long Beach, Calif. The Rose Bowl Regatta is the largest coed intersectional competition during the college sailing season fielding 30 teams from across the country.

Competing for the Monarchs in the A-Division race will be senior skipper and team captain Dillon Paiva paired with junior crew and Coronado, Calif. native Alexa Cavalieri. 2013 marks the third straight year that Cavalieri has sailed in the A-Division race for ODU. 

The B-Divsion Race will feature freshman skipper Esteban Forrer and junior crew Julia Wiesner.
