Monarch Sailing Alumnus Qualifies For Olympics
PORTSMOUTH, RI. (April 3) - Charlie Ogletree (ODU '89) teamed with John Lovell
to win the Tornado Olympic Trials and has qualified for the upcoming Olympic
games
in Australia this summer.
Ogletree, a native of Columbia, NC., competed for the United States in the 1996 Atlanta Games, where he placed eighth. He was a 1989 Collegiate Sailing All-American at Old Dominion University. Ogletree currently lives in Newport Beach, CA and and is a member of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club. Olgetree-Lovell combined for 20 points, edging out the team of Lars Guck and PJ Schaffer by two points. Later this spring, another former Monarch All-American, John Torgerson ('98) will compete in the US Laser Trials.
