NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University sailing team and head coach Mitch Brindley released the fall schedule on Wednesday with the 2012-13 season set to begin on Sept. 8. The Monarchs and Lady Monarchs are set to take to the water on Tuesday, Sept. 4 to begin practice for the upcoming season.
“We have a very competitive schedule as usual and a more mature team coming in,” said Brindley on the schedule. “This schedule will allow our sailors to continue to mature and develop and hopefully move towards qualifying for nationals at the end of the fall. Starting the season, we host the Riley Cup which is a good season-opening event here in Norfolk to find out where we are at as a team and what we need to work on.”
Old Dominion’s home events are slated for the Riley Cup in Norfolk on Sept. 8-9 as well as the Senator’s Cup/South #1 event on Sept. 29-30.
Other notable events on the slate include the MAISA Women’s Singlehanded Championships (Sept. 22-23) and the MAISA Men’s Singlehanded Championships (Oct. 6-7) in Annapolis, Md., the MAISA Match Race Championships (Oct. 20-21) in Kings Point, N.Y., the Top 9 Invite (Oct. 27-28) in Throggs Neck, N.Y., the ACC Dinghy Championships (Nov. 10-11) in Kings Point, N.Y. and the ACC Women’s Championships (Nov. 10-11) in New London, Conn.
