The Georgetown University sailing team began its 2000-2001 campaign last weekend by competing in the Harry Anderson Regatta at Yale University.

The coed team started off the season with a sixth-place overall finish at the first intersectional regatta of the year. The Hoyas garnered 117 points, only 11 points out of second place. In the A division, Brian Bissell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) and Gavin Weiss (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy) sailed well, finishing in seventh place with 59 points. Curtis Flood (Richmond, Ky./St. George's School) and Shelly Wentworth (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) finished fifth in the B division.

The Hoya coed squad is presently ranked No. 2 in the country, while the women are ranked No. 9.

This weekend Georgetown will be competing in four regattas: the Irish Intersectional at Notre Dame University, the Captain Hurst Bowl at Dartmouth, the Riley Cup at Old Dominion and the Laser Open at Navy.
