Funk Qualifies For National Championships
The Old Dominion sailing team will be sending yet another representative to the ICSA National Collegiate Sailing Championships this fall. Junior Brad Funk (Harbor Bluffs, Fl.) finished second at the MAISA Singlehanded District Championships behind Oskar Johansson of Queen's College. The National Championships will be November 3-5 in Seattle, WA. Funk finished second out of 16 in a race where only the top three advance to the National Championships. Funk will be joining the Sloop squad and the women's Singlehanded sailor Sally Barkow at the national championship competitions in November. Old Dominion has won 11 Collegiate Sailing National titles since 1982. Also in Annapolis, the sixth ranked Lady Monarch sailing squad finished third at the Navy Fall Women's Intersectional. The A boat of Corrie Clement ( Metarie, La.) and Liz Bower (Fairport, NY.) finished eighth, as did the B division boat of Jessica Simpson (Ontario, Canada), Jeanenne Cochran (Williamsburg, Va.) and Debbie Cappozzi (Bayport, NY).
