NEWPORT BEACH--Former Old Dominion University sailors Anna Tunnicliffe ('05) and 2004 U.S. Olympic silver medalist Charlie Ogletree ('89) won their respective pre-Olympic trial events.

Three time Collegiate Sailing All-American and Collegiate Singlehanded National Champion Anna Tunnicliffe (Plantation, FL.) posted two first places today to win the U.S. Sailing Olympic Pre-Trials regatta for Laser Radials, and will represent the USA at the 2007 Pan American games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in July. Tunnicliffe, the 2005 Collegiate Sailor of the Year had six first places, three seconds and one third to beat out Paige Railey by three points. Another former Monarch, Brad Funk ('02) took second in the Lasers division.

The team of Charlie Ogletree (Kemah, Tex.) and John Lovell captured the Tornado Olympic pre trails in San Diego with five firsts and one second, beating out Enrique Figueroa/Jorge Hernandez who compiled 12 points. Next month their campaign moves to Argentina for the South American Tornado championships, a tune-up for the Worlds in Buenos Aires starting Nov. 18.
