NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University swimming and diving teams had a successful opening day in the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool as the men lead both George Mason and Towson while the Lady Monarchs lead George Mason and Northeastern.
Highlighting Old Dominion's day one winners was the men's 200 yard frestyle relay with Eddie Hubert, Ben Leach, Ben Hansen and Sidni Hoxha who won the event at 1:25:16. In the men's 200 yard IM, ODU went 1-2 as Carter Watson won the event at 155:57 followed by teammate Ryan Telep at 1:56:56. Hoxha won the men's 50 free at 20.51 while Vitor Sa took third at 21.39. The Monarch men also won the 400 yard medley relay at Andrew Crockett, Jason Haigh, Vitor Sa and Carter Watson won it in 3:26.19.
For the Lady Monarchs, ODU took second in the women's 200 yards freestyle relay with Ashley Luchsinger, Mackenzie Payment, Savannah Bowers and Morgan Johnson at 1:38.78. In the women's 1650 yards freestyle, ODU's Yesim Giresunlu with 16:53.77. The Lady Monarchs placed second in the women's 400 yard medley behind Kimberley Rashleigh, Laura Cempel, Jessica Hubert and Savannah Bowers at 3:53.75.
