NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion swim team will hold a memorial service at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool at the new Student Recreation Building this Sunday from 3 - 6 p.m. in honor of Matt Livsey ('79), who suddenly passed away on Thursday from a heart attack.

Livsey graduated from Old Dominion in 1979 and has helped run swim meets for the Monarchs and Lady Monarchs over the last several years. He was known throughout the swimming community as the ultimate volunteer and the guy who knew everything about running a swim meet.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, July 3, 1956, he was the son of Patsy Anne Cannell and John "Jim" Livsey. Livsey graduated from ODU with a B.S. in biology. He was a president and owner of a local packaging business, Spec Pac Inc. An avid swimmer and an active volunteer with Virginia Swimming and Old Dominion University Swim Team, his past involvements with local swim teams included ODAC, TAC and TIDE. He also supported Virginia Rush soccer and the Maury High School Orchestra.

Livsey is survived by his wife, Sandy ('81), who was also a member of the ODU swim team, and their three children - Cammy, Ashton, and David.

A celebration of life will take place today, Jan. 17, at Old Dominion University's pool from 3 to 6 p.m. Family and friends are welcome. Your thoughts and many kindnesses are very much appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name directly to the ODU swim team. Graves Funeral Home Inc. is in charge. www. gravesfuneralhomeinc.com.
